WARSAW, OCTOBER 17, 2019 // Zalando’s dedicated shopping club Zalando Lounge officially opened its first international fulfillment center in Olsztynek, Poland. With a size of 130,000 sqm, the site will serve the growing customer base of Zalando Lounge, which currently has more than 15 million members across 13 European markets.

In July 2018, the site celebrated its roofing ceremony, while first operations started in early March 2019. The Olsztynek fulfillment center is equipped with two five-story high “picktowers,” where several million items can be stored. Along with the installed automation technologies, such as sorters that match single articles to orders, Europe’s biggest so-called “Optimus” outbound sorter will direct orders to its respective delivery destination. In addition, an area will be dedicated to the Home & Living assortment to process their delivery even more efficiently. The Olsztynek site is managed by Fiege e-Com North and already provides 500 jobs to the region. Long-term, Fiege e-Com North expects to increase staff to up to over 1,000 employees.

Martin Rost, Senior Vice President Offprice (Zalando Lounge and Outlets) says, “The growing popularity of our shopping club both in Poland and across Europe challenges us to optimize our logistics processes continuously. With Fiege as our operating partner at the site and its team supporting Zalando Lounge, we are confident to extend our offer even further by new brands and articles, such as interior accessories and home textiles.”

Zalando SE Press Release Provider Olsztynek, Piotr Kohmann, CEO Fiege e-Com North

Piotr Kohmann, CEO of Fiege e-Com North, adds, “Thanks to our experience running the Polish fulfillment center in Gardno near Szczecin, we were able to put together a skilled team to further scale Zalando Lounge’s demand. We are very proud that thanks to a well planned and executed implementation, as well as our flexibility, we are able to process the first live volumes. With our partnership with Zalando Lounge, we want to create a unique working place for our employees, as well as increase our staff continuously. We are convinced that our quality work in Olsztynek will be appreciated by Zalando Lounge’s customers across Europe.”

Zalando chose Olsztynek due to the region’s recruitment potential, its geographical location and infrastructure, with a direct connection to the S51 and S7 expressways, and a successful cooperation with the Olsztyn city council. The newly opened site joins the Zalando logistics network of soon-to-be fifteen fulfillment centers in six countries. Zalando opened the logistics site in Szczecin in 2018. A site near Łódź is planned to start operations in 2020.

With 15 million members in 13 European markets, Zalando Lounge is one of the most successful shopping clubs in Europe. Zalando Lounge offers exclusive access to 2,500 brands with discounts of up to 75 percent. It complements the Zalando Fashion Store with special sales campaigns for a certain period of time that are especially interesting for customers who enjoy premium brands and are also searching for good discounts.
