In order to slow the spread of the coronavirus, several European governments and scientific institutions either recommend or enforce wearing textile masks in public. The resulting high demand has made masks a rare commodity. Next to keeping employees safe and protecting the company, it is important for Zalando to offer solutions during the crisis where it can. Thanks to the company’s network of partners and its private label production, Zalando is able to offer non-medical masks for sale from today.
“We believe that everyone should have access to a mask. Providing affordable textile masks will help people to protect others around them and preserve medical masks for health care professionals. We are very pleased to donate the profit generated from the sales of the textile masks to international efforts against the coronavirus via humedica. Thanks to its worldwide network of partners, humedica is able to support directly on site with food packages, protective equipment, education and many other measures in countries in dire need,” says Kate Heiny, Director Sustainability at Zalando.
Zalando will offer non-medical masks at a price range starting from one euro each and with a few designs, and will continue to increase the assortment with more designs over the course of the coming weeks.
The masks help to reduce respiratory droplet transmission, for example when coughing, and visibly strengthen awareness around social distancing. By wearing a mask, everyone can contribute to reducing the further spread of the coronavirus. The masks are sourced through Zalando’s private label production, and brands in Zalando’s wholesale business and partner program.
