Annual accounts 2011: Zalando’s Turnover reaches over 500 Million EUR Berlin, 20th July 2012. Zalando ended the 2011 business year on a positive note.

With a net turnover of 510 million EUR, Germany’s largest online fashion retailer more than tripled its turnover compared to 2010. Founded in late 2008, Zalando already generated six million EUR by 2009 and its net turnover reached 150 million EUR in 2010 within two years of the company being founded.

"We’re very happy about the positive results from 2011. They reflect the sustainable creation of one of the most successful e-commerce companies in Europe. However, Zalando did not only grow regarding its turnover, but also in terms of the company’s substance,’ stated Robert Gentz,  Managing Director and Co-Founder of Zalando GmbH. ’50 percent of the net turnover came from  outside Germany and over half of our total revenue is generated outside our core category - shoes. These results prove our expansions into other categories and markets have been successful and that our investments in these areas pay off," explained Zalando Managing Director Rubin Ritter.

Over 1,000 jobs have already been created in Berlin and the surrounding Brandenburg area, with the new technology base in Dortmund that opened in July housing up to 60 developers. Additionally, Zalando is building a state of the art logistics centre in Erfurt to strengthen its panEuropean activity. The online retailer is currently active in 12 European markets, with shops opening for Finland and Denmark this week.
