Logistics is an essential part of Zalando's DNA, just like fashion and technology. It is the employees in the logistics centres who ensure that our millions of customers receive their parcels quickly and reliably – every day. We regularly report on the steps required for this and what a typical working day looks like in our Logistics Blog. This article is about the general conditions: What do you earn in logistics at Zalando? What additional benefits are there? How does cooperation with the works councils work?

Remuneration and benefits

Zalando's remuneration in all business areas is in line with industry standards, taking various internal and external factors into account. In addition, we regularly pay holiday and Christmas bonuses, capital-forming benefits, a company pension allowance and a monthly public transport ticket. During the coronavirus pandemic, we also offered special leave and bonuses and have so far paid out two inflation relief payments of 1,000 euros each. The remuneration packages are reviewed and adjusted annually.

Shares, bonus payments and discounts

In addition to remuneration, employees at our logistics centres receive additional benefits. These include a wide range of benefits – from free shares, holiday and Christmas bonuses to social counselling, time off for voluntary work and regular company events. All Zalandos receive a 40 per cent discount in our online shop and a 30 per cent discount at our Zalando Lounge shopping club. Further discounts and exclusive offers from external partners can be found in our employee portal. During working hours, we provide drinks and regularly deliver fresh fruit free of charge. In addition, employees receive food and drinks in the canteens of our logistics centres at a reduced price through subsidies. We give all employees in logistics small gifts on various occasions – for example, for birthdays, Christmas and five-year anniversaries.

Further training as a specialist or manager

At Zalando, we give all motivated employees the opportunity to develop professionally and personally. For example, they can train for a specialised additional role such as problem solver, mentor or language mediator. Together with the Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Employment Agency, we enable employees without a vocational qualification or with training from outside the industry to train as warehouse logistics specialists as part of a qualification programme. They can also gradually take on management tasks. And because great managers inspire their teams and lead them to joint success, we also offer our managers customised further training measures.

Healthcare at the logistics centre – and beyond

As a socially responsible company, we also want to motivate our employees to do their bit for the community. That's why we give all Zalandos two days (16 hours) of paid time off work each year for voluntary work. In 2023, employees across the company committed 4,281 hours to 66 non-profit projects and charitable organisations. However, it is not only important to us that our employees are committed, but also that they are healthy. At all company locations, expert consultants support us in designing healthy, ergonomic workplaces. We offer flexible shift models (e.g., parental shifts adapted to local daycare centre times) and reduced gym membership fees. Our psychological counselling service in cooperation with the renowned Fürstenberg Institute is available to all employees and members of their household free of charge around the clock. Depending on the location, there are also company social workers who are on hand to help employees with anything that is on their minds.

Have a say and help shape the workplace

We work closely with the works councils and employee representatives at all our locations and maintain a trusting dialogue with these bodies. The works councils represent the entire workforce and are actively committed to improving the working environment on-site. Employees also have the opportunity to voice their opinions directly. The site management and HR department hold regular consultation hours where employees in the logistics centres can discuss their concerns. Twice a year, our internal employee survey zBeat asks employees how satisfied they are at and with Zalando. The results help us to continuously work on processes and the working atmosphere.

Continuous improvement

We value the expertise of our employees. They know their work processes inside out and often have clever ideas on how to make daily work a little easier or more effective. Employees can submit their suggestions for improvement digitally or in writing via our Kaizando ideas platform. Various teams from the relevant specialist departments review each suggestion together and, if possible, implement it. Good suggestions, such as a new labelling system for waste bins, are rewarded with a bonus.
