Recall on own initiative in April 2014
As part of the quality control process conducted by Landeslabor Berlin-Brandenburg we were informed in late March 2014 that a higher reading of chrome (VI) had been established in five of our shoe models. To rule out any possibility of endangering our customers, the sale of the models concerned was ceased immediately, the stock discarded, and a recall campaign conducted of our own initiative. To this end, the customers concerned were contacted directly to inform them that products affected could be returned free of charge and that any related costs incurred would be reimbursed. At the same time, sealed test specimens of the models affected were submitted to recognized testing institutes (TÜV Süd, TÜV Rheinland and the testing and research institute in Pirmasens) to validate the initial results.
The results differed markedly from those of the initial test and found an increased chrome (VI) content in only one of the five models, and even in that one case the figure was well below that of the initial result. In addition, an accredited testing institute was commissioned to produce a toxicological report for the purposes of a comprehensive risk assessment. The results of the report confirmed that, based on the values established, at no point did the shoe models tested pose a health risk to our customers or employees.
