Do.grow: inclusive culture In zalando‘s Warehouses

Inclusion and Diversity (I&D) is a crucial aspect of Zalando’s culture. With an open, inclusive culture where everyone feels respected and valued, we are more engaged and innovative, which leads to stronger business results.

One highlight are the trainings and activities provided in our fulfillment centers in Erfurt, Mönchengladbach and Brieselang. We train colleagues to further strengthen cultural sensitivity and engage in volunteering experiences. Dedicated integration managers and social workers in the warehouses support employees with various cultural and professional backgrounds. Our commitment to I&D is part of a variety of standards that we set to provide our employees with good working conditions and attractive development opportunities.
 

Do.Know: product transparency and sustainability

Zalando is committed to high product quality and strict safety standards. Examples for our processes are regular trainings for our buyers and cooperations with independent test institutes along our value chain. Further, we decided to extend our offer of sustainable products, starting with our kids category to provide parents with the best products for their loved ones. We also launched sustainable products for our private brands (zLabels) using raw materials and production processes adhering to the rigorous criteria of the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and the Global Recycled Standard (GRS). We are convinced that customers need all relevant information to make responsible buying decisions and therefore we will continuously increase information and relevant filters in our shop.  

Do.Connect: supporting the communities around us

Creating real impact is what drives our social engagement. Instead of reinventing the wheel we want to help scaling innovative initiatives with a proven track record that solve societal challenges.
In 2016, we teamed up with the global NGO ASHOKA, TEDx Berlin, Streetfootballworld, Betterplace and almost 30 partners for the Hello Festival to find the world’s most powerful initiatives in the field of refugee integration.

During the festival 13 social entrepreneurs inspired more than 3,000 local experts, multipliers and citizens with their success stories. To support their projects, we collected ~EUR 250,000 for the "Innovation fund for integration”. We continue our engagement by offering job opportunities to refugees and collaborating with the funded projects such as Singa mentoring and ipso e-care.

DO. RESPECT: Digital Data Protection-Tool

Whatever we do, customers are the main focus of everything, as we aim to offer them the best shopping experience. This also includes handling data transparently. We comply with the highest standards in data protection and we are convinced that being able to understand data-processing is essential for accepting digital business models. Long and incomprehensive privacy terms are hardly helpful.

This is why Zalando and the German Ministry of Justice jointly developed the free tool, getapager.de, which summarizes long privacy statements, free of charge. German blogger, start-ups and corporate companies are welcome to use it in order to create their personal one pager for data protection in just a few clicks.
