Zalando is excited to announce its plans to open a new tech hub in Lisbon; the third international location following centers in Dublin (April 2015) and Helsinki (August 2015). The Portuguese capital’s draw for tech firms is undeniable. With an inherent “cool” and open-minded startup landscape, Lisbon is a perfectly matched destination for Zalando. Marc Lamik, Head of Partnerships and Innovation, explains, “Lisbon offers a great environment to develop our new hub. The city’s tech ecosystem will allow us to attract the talent we need, and we are looking forward to engaging in fruitful exchanges with the local startup community.”
Rui Coelho, Executive Director, Invest Lisboa
Welcome to Lisboa, Zalando. You can start calling it your city.”
We have already begun the recruitment process, actively inviting Frontend and Backend Software Engineers, Product Managers and UX designers, as well as talent from within academic institutions. The new hub is slated to open in the first quarter of 2018, creating over 50 jobs in the first year of operations.
The Lisbon hub will complement our existing centers with a strong focus on the digital experience of our Fashion Store. Zalando wishes to boost its platform operations and further connect people and fashion in multiple, meaningful ways across our 15 European markets. The new hub is a key step in that strategy.
Zalando enjoys the support of Invest Lisboa, Lisbon’s investment agency. Executive Director, Invest Lisboa, Rui Coelho: “We believe it was the right choice because Lisbon has a deep talent pool and is also attracting more and more talent from abroad due to the quality of life and energy that can be experienced in the city. We will keep doing our best so that Zalando is successful and grows. Zalando for us is not just another company – and Lisbon is attracting many! – but it fits perfectly in the ecosystem we are developing in Lisbon: a mix of technology and creativity, with open arms for startups. Welcome to Lisboa, Zalando. You can start calling it your city.”
